A Guide to Natural Wood Finishes
Wood is never just a colour. It is a texture, a temperature, and a story that keeps changing as it ages.

Choosing a wood finish is one of the quietest decisions in a room — and one of the most lasting. The tone of a table or a chair frame sets the temperature of everything around it.
Pale Oak: Light and Open
Natural and whitened oak reflect light and make a space feel airy. They suit rooms with soft daylight, linen textiles, and pale walls.
Pale oak is forgiving, too. Small marks soften into the grain rather than standing out.
Warm Walnut: Depth and Calm
Walnut brings richness without heaviness. Its darker tone grounds a room and pairs beautifully with stone, wool, and brass.
Use it for anchor pieces — a sideboard, a bed frame, a dining table — and let lighter elements gather around it.
Oil, Wax, or Lacquer
Oiled finishes feel closest to raw wood and can be refreshed at home. Hardwax oils add a little more protection for busy surfaces like dining tables.
Lacquer is the most resistant, but it changes the way wood feels under your hand. For everyday furniture, we usually prefer the honesty of oil.
Living with Wood
Every finish will change with time and light. That is not a flaw — it is the reason natural wood feels so alive in a home.
